If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and you want to work temporarily in Canada, you must apply for a work permit.
Temporary work permit application
- The Canadian employer applies for a Labour Market Opinion. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) will grant a positive Labour Market Opinion if it is satisfied that there is no Canadian worker suitable to fill the job role of the migrant.
- The Canadian employer or company extends a temporary job offer to the foreign skilled worker.
- The foreign skilled worker applies for a work permit online.
- A Canada Border Services Agency officer issues the Canada Temporary Work Permit to the foreign worker at their point of entry into Canada.
You may also need a temporary resident visa. Check theĀ list of countries and territories whose citizens need a visa.
Be aware that there are several immigration categories and you may fall into one that permits you to apply for a permanent resident visa.
